RIP DMX suffers Heart Attack from Overdose
Today April 9th while surrounded by family and friends Earl Simmons (DMX) was taken off life support and died shortly after. (December 18, 1970 – April 9, 2021).
He had a truly remarkable career, not only for what he contributed to hip hop and rap but to the movie industry as well. He was and still is one of the most successful rappers to have integrated into the movie industry, commanding big money movie deals as an action star while enjoying continued success in the Music Industry.
DMX struggled with his Demons throughout life, mostly notedly his cocaine and crack cocaine addiction. He had said in a recent interview by Talib Kweli that he was tricked into smoking crack at the young age of 14 by a 30 year old that he looked up to, which basically started his life long struggle to stay off and avoid crack cocaine. It’s a shame, a 14 year old shouldn’t be tricked into smoking crack, let someone make a choice to do that at least, it’s pretty fucked up to get a young kid that looks up to you addicted. Unfortunately I’m sure he is far from the only person to end up addicted to substances, I’m sure some PCP addicts were tricked at a young age to think they were smoking weed.
DMX had a rough Childhood, some is detailed here. https://nypost.com/2021/04/07/inside-dmxs-traumatic-childhood/
TMZ.com had reported that his heart attack was due to an overdose he suffered.
He starred in movies along side Aaliyah, Jet Li, Steven Seagal, and even another rap star Nas in Belly.
He has been nominated for Grammy’s & MTV Video Music Awards before and has a couple of American Award Show wins under his belt. Some more successful than others but he has 8 Studio Albums under his Belt also.
Regardless of his not so Normal life and his demons the mark he left on us and America as society will forever be felt…
He’s up in Heaven Partying with one of his movie costars Aaliyah. 😎
One of my favorite DMX songs seems to be about Addiction, I never realized the lyrics line up perfectly for this song…
