Philadelphia Eagle Carson Wentz Traded to Colts

The long drawn out QB controversy that engulfed the Eagles is finally over. The Eagles decided to part ways with Carson Wentz, 1 year removed from his massive contract extension that saw him command a 4 year 128 million dollar extension. His large contract mixed in with his wildly inconsistent play over the course of his NFL Career and his downright awful play of 2020 made hammering out a deal with the Colts quite difficult.

When it was all said and done the 2 teams were in agreement of fair compensation. The Colts get Carson Wentz and his Massive contract while the Eagles receive some much needed salary cap space to operate. The Eagles receive a 2021 3rd rounder and a 2022 1st rounder from the Colts assuming Wentz is able to play 75% of the snaps in Indianapolis for the Colts. Carson has been able to stay rather healthy the last 2 years so it shouldn’t be too difficult for him to play 75% of the snaps, so barring a bad injury Wentz will Fetch the Eagles a 1st round pick.

The Colts were the understood Trade destination after Carson decided he wanted to give up on Philadelphia. I understand he took the Benching as disrespect but his play deserved it. However he couldn’t handle that like a man and turned into a baby, so he definitely isn’t a True Philly Person, he’s more like a Baby. He will fit right in over in Indianapolis because he definitely couldn’t handle it here in this Blue Collar town. Jalen Hurts attitude and work ethic fits in much better on the Eagles and in Philadelphia. Now we just have to hope he is the real deal and not just some dud.

As an Eagles Fan that loved Carson Wentz, I was pretty shocked by his behavior and how he handled the benching. He acted like a big baby, and I think it’s the reason he didn’t get back in the rest of the games with his shitty attitude and how he handled the rookie coming in to start a game. Who knows if he had handled it better he may have got back into the games and he may have showed us all the Carson Wentz from 2017, the almost MVP Wentz. But he didn’t and the rest is History. It’s crazy that the Hunter from a blue collar state like North Dakota could have such a tough time fitting in and act like such a prima donna, bitching and complaining, not willing to even compete to win the Starting Job, he wanted it handed back to him, as it would have been until he started to make people feel that he wasn’t the guy. Some people had their doubts all along and others always knew he wasn’t the guy, but the majority of the Fans thought Carson was it but in 2020 he ended up . I feel it was quite messed up what Carson did to this city after the feel good year of 2017 then Carson playing Hurt in 2018, then in 2019 Playing ok but not that good until towards the end of the season when he finally seemed to play well, only to force himself out because he couldn’t handle being benched for poor play. I feel he has never been taught a lesson like this before in his life, and it shows because he had a very tough time handling something many people would take in stride and make the most out of it. For many reasons I feel he owes the City of Philadelphia an Apology. Regardless of the people who wanted Nick Foles to get the starting job, which is something he never got over, Howie and the Eagles picked him, they were all in on Carson and this only changed after his extremely average and bad QB right after receiving a large cash extension. Carson was also somewhat responsible for Doug Peterson being fired. Peterson was supposed to be able to get the most out of Carson Wentz, being an retired QB himself but it seems the rumors maybe true, that Carson isn’t coachable and won’t listen to any Coaching and doesn’t do well when receiving criticism.

The early extension deal Carson Received in 2019 made him one of the top Paid QB’s in the League. I understand why the Eagles did it, assumingly because those to pay 1st pay less for their QB and as you go down the line you and wait longer and longer you pay more and more. So in their mind they were doing the right thing… I realized Carson still have 2 more years left on his rookie deal and he has yet to prove he could stay healthy so I figured it would have made more sense to let him play out 2019 then decide if he is worth the extension. So he still would have gotten the deal eventually before the 2020 implosion anyway. I can’t image that Drafting a QB in the 2nd round could scare him so much but he knew Jalen Hurts wasn’t a 2nd round QB. Carson knew Jalen was a 1st Round QB talent especially after he climbed to the top of the Depth chart in 2 storied Universities, University of Alabama & the Oklahoma Sooner. It showed exactly how fragile his psyche was that a Rookie 2nd round QB got him so rattled. Behaving like that showed Carson was not the Alpha Super Hero we thought he was, he was more of a Beta Male. Carson may do much better now that he is signed with the COLTS and reunited with Frank Reich however I don’t feel he will ever overcome his Beta Male psyche. He will continue to have confidence issues like this for probably the rest of his Career. Getting his own Super Bowl as the Starting QB will do wonders for his mental makeup and possible lead him on a path to success.

I am interested to see how he bounces back after this. The one thing that was lost early on in his career was his scrambling ability, in 2017 when his knee got blown out was the last time he actually had it. It got to the point in 2020 were I would cringe when I would see he go to try and take off because I knew he didn’t have enough in the tank to make too many people miss to buy himself enough time. In 2020 he was hit so much, some because he held it too long but he was almost pressured every play just like Pat Mahomes was in the Super Bowl. It was extremely rare for him to get a clean pocket, the colts have a much better line I believe so he should have a very interesting start to his career in Indy, a city that to be honest fits him better than Philadelphia did because he is far to quiet for a Philadelphia, a Philadelphian if you want to call them that will always say what’s on their minds. Carson was far to timid to survive to long here and it showed as the media and the eagles shortcomings got to him, it seems losing his starting job, even rightfully so, was the final straw that broke the Camels back. That’s right Carson broke his back too and apparently the Eagles misdiagnosed it and probably allowed for more damage as he played for it only to hang up the cleats shortly there after.

For Carson to be successful going forward he definitely needs to work on a deep ball, and to someone other than the TEs. He does fine finding his TEs but you ask him to pass to a WR and its not normally successful, especially over like 15 yards. He needs to get back to being fluid in the pocket bobbing and weaving around to open throwing lanes and buy time. He is going to have 2 pretty fast receivers in TY Hilton and Parris Campbell (4.32 40yd) then a tall one at 6’4″ (4.5 40yd) and then probably slow ass Jack Doyle as his TE. Look for Carson to set Career years for Doyle if he remains the #1 TE on the Depth Chart. I would look to upgrade the TE position as the COLTS for Carson so he has a favorable target. I could see Zach Ertz being deal to Indy to reunite with Carson and tear some stuff up. He must not forget those WRs and hit those deep post routes for 6 rather than the Over throws we were accustom to in Philly. The Colts also have a really nice running game in Johnathan Taylor, Marlon Mack, and even Nyheim Hines that should help Carson stay clean and giving him access to play action passes. Offense shouldn’t be an issue if he can return to late 2019 or 2017 form, if we get 2020 Carson he is going to have a rough, but as an Eagles fan I wish he has a Healthy year and we can snag a 1st rounder here from the COLTS, but i don’ think there is anyway the COLTS are bad next year unless Wentz is Atrocious, even if they just pass less and only run they still average about 5 yards a carry across the board so it would be hard for them to be that bad.

I’m wishing Carson a Great Year in INDY but would still appreciate an Apology for just giving up on us and leaving even if the team was going to let you him compete vs. Hurts. The reason he left was because he did think he would beat out Hurts and it would be too risky to try and be stuck on the bench for a whole year. Why not take a flyer on your old coach and give it a shot in a New City he thought. I still feel he left us high and dry with the Unproven Hurts and flashbacks of the Original Carson, Hope to see that Alive in Indy he needs to play like he did in 2017 get moving more, I blame dug from not designing him out of the pocket.
